One Hundred Pushups

October 7th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Personal

Yesterday, I finally decided to start the program to be able to do 100 pushups.  I’m using the regimen that hundredpushups.com stipulates.  On my first day I did the following routine of six pushups, break, six pushups, break, four pushups, break, four pushups, break, ten pushups.  The program requires that you do pushups every other day in order to let your body rest and gradually increases the number.  It is a six week program and I’ll be really satisfied if I can do at least 50 pushups without a break.

Ravi Shankar

We saw Ravi Shankar and Anoushka Shankar perform this past Sunday at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.  This was probably his last performance in Chicago.  Nevertheless, for his age he still had it in him.  At the beginning of the performance, he said that he first performed on that stage in 1932, when he was only 12 years old!

He performed 3 ragas, none of which I was familiar with.  In one of the the ragas, he and Anoushka were essentially duelling with the tabla player (Tanmoy Bhosh ?).  It went on for nearly 15 minutes and was hypnotic in its cadence and repetition.

So, I bid farewell to a legend and I’m glad to have seen him perform a couple of times.
