Jogging & A Beautiful Park

July 10th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Personal

Yesterday after my work got done at the client site in Eden Prairie, MN, I thought it would be a great idea to go on a jog outside.  It was close to 80 degrees, there was a light breeze and I had been on my feet the whole day delivering training.  I found this great park very close to my hotel called Bryant Lake Regional Park.  It had a beautiful lake with a moderate size beach and a great play area of kids, which made me think of Dhruv.  There was a paved path that went through the woods that was 1.7 miles.  I jogged the path from one end to the other for a total of about 3 miles.  Even though the path had some inclines where I thought my shins would explode, I managed to get through it.  I felt great once I was done and I actually felt that I could’ve gone further.  For some reason, once I cross the 1 mile mark, it becomes a lot easier for me to jog and it simply enjoyable.  In fact, jogging in a wooded area like that didn’t make me bored at all and I didn’t feel the need for music or anything; it was enough to be outside under the sun.

Redacted – The Movie

I just got done watching Redacted while I was stuck at the airport in Minneapolis trying to get home.  The movie was reasonably good and of course politically charged.  While watching it I was wondering how some who view this movie would think that it is biased and "left wing".  However, if this movie approximates the truth of what is taking place in Iraq, then how is politically biased?  Some people will argue that this movie only depicts "one side of the story in Iraq" and portrays American troops in Iraq as barbarians.  They then argue that there is a dearth of movies that show all the good that American troops are doing.  But the norm should be that American troops do good.  The kind of barbarism that is depicted in the movie should is not acceptable even if it is offset by a lot of "good".  Those who think that a lot of "good" offsets a little "evil" have a warped sense of political calculus and is a nuance that I simply do not see.

Spring – The Restaurant

Mona and I went to Spring last night with a colleague of mine and his wife.  The food was impressive, but not over the top.  I had a Hamachi appetizer, a lemongrass soup, blackened Cod as my main dish, and some "mini donuts" with cream as dessert.  The Cod was laid over a bed of green beans marinated in soy sauce.  It was way too salty.  The lemongrass soup was probably the most enjoyable course.  We also had 2 exceptional wines:  a red and white.  Of course, I don’t remember their names.  All I remember is that the white wine was an "Aneis".  Though I’m partial to reds, the white was really smooth with no acidity, which is sometimes the case with cheaper white wines, which this certainly was not.  All in all, very good food, but I’m not sure I would do a repeat.
